Can Computers Dream? It seems the answer is yes!
What is this?
- It's an AI that hallucinates. It's interactive: you can tell it what to dream about!
- The AI in question was originally created to classify objects in images. Inspired by Google's inceptionism art, we have repurposed it to dream about these objects instead.
- You can suggest things to dream about in the chat. In total, it knows about 1000 different animals, plants, vehicles, buildings, objects and places.

- Note that not everything will work equally well. Some things are harder to dream about than others. Plants and animals tend to work best, but vehicles tend to be pretty difficult for example.
How does it work?
- The AI in question is an artificial neural network. It looks at images and classifies the objects it sees them into 1000 different categories.
- Instead of using it for classification, we are showing it an image and asking it to modify it, so that it becomes more confident in what it sees. This allows the network tohallucinate. The image is continuously zooming in, creating an interesting kaleidoscopic effect.
- Note that every image generated by the network is unique: nothing is ever repeated, and all images are generated in response to the viewers' suggestions. Nothing in the images is copied from somewhere. They are fully generated on the fly by whatever the neural network thinks makes this object this specific object.

How do I participate?
- Every 60 seconds, a new topic to dream about is picked at random from viewers' suggestions posted in the chat. You will need a Twitch account to participate.
- If your suggestion is picked, the AI will respond to you in the chat, and your username and suggestion will appear in the top left corner after a while.
- If the topic is changed too quickly, the dreams of the AI don't get enough time to materialize. So you may have to be patient for a while until your suggestion gets picked up. Thanks for your understanding!
