#9n1 On A Mission - Adding Sound to Your Game

LO1 - To appreciate the reasons for using sound in a video game
LO2 - To understand how to add sound using GameMaker so that you can include suitable sounds 


Starter

Find a seat at the correct table:
  • Table 1 & 2 - Detective Gamers
  • Table 3 & 4 - Wormhole Gamers
  • Table 5 & 6 - Evil Queen Gamers

On your tables create a mind map about the use of sound in video games:
  • Why is sound used in video games?
  • How could you use sound in your video game?
  • How will you collect / create sounds for your game?
  • Any other thoughts / ideas you have 
You have as long as it takes the music to finish. Be prepared to feedback from your group

 







Main

Task 1 - Collect music / sounds for your game

Create a new folder in your Sites -->DA204SPB --> Products folder called sounds

1. You could create your own  music / sound effects
2. You could download free existing music / sound effects
3. Have a look at my area on the read drive lots of useful sounds on there
  • File Store \ Read \ ICT \ Mr Smith .........
4. Rip a sound off youtube - this should be your last option as you would be breaking copyright
TOP TIP - DON'T FORGET TO NOTE DOWN YOUR SOUNDS INTO YOUR ASSETS TABLE

Task 2 - Add the music / sound effects into your game

As an independent learner use these resources to help you learn how to add sound into your game

Extension Task - 

  • Test the sound works in your game and update the formative testing section at the top of your development log
  • Get someone else to play your game and feedback their thoughts into your development log

  • Post on your blog about what you have learnt and acheived in today's lesson
