#8w7 Character Design

To design and develop your main animation characters according to your target audience

Starter
Homer Simpson Model Sheet

1. On paper try creating a model sheet for one of the characters in your game


2. Annotate your drawing to explain your ideas


3. Get a partner to write some feedback next to design

For 1 mark, a student may have needed guidance, but must have used bitmap
tools to develop some elements, demonstrating limited awareness of audience and
purpose.

For 3 marks, a student must have used bitmap tools to develop some elements
that meet most of the requirements and demonstrate some awareness of audience
and purpose.

For 5 marks, a student must have used bitmap tools to develop elements that
meet most of the requirements and demonstrate good awareness of audience and purpose.

For 7 marks, a student must have used bitmap tools to develop a collection of
elements that meets the requirements and demonstrates sound awareness of
audience, purpose and medium.

For 9 marks, a student must have developed a collection of effective elements that meets the requirements and demonstrates astute awareness of audience,purpose and medium.

1. Set up a new A4 canvas in Photoshop (29cm x 21cm)
2. Open your two packaging photos in Photoshop
3. Create a display of your packaging

#9m1 #9n5 Rules Log

LO1 - To understand what a rule is in the context of computer gaming
LO2 - To understand what a an action and an event are in the context of computer gaming
LO3 - To be able to  develop a rules log for the running of your own game


All computer games follow a set of rules that have been developed by the programmers. They explain what the game should do (an action) when different things happen (event)
Rules are written in the format:

IF Event THEN Action

e.g IF Player presses up arrow THEN character jumps
e.g IF player clicks start THEN go to level 1
e.g IF player hits a monster THEN lose a life and restart the level

Click here and download the game to your area
Play the game and on a new post on your blog write down as many rules as you can think of for this game

Main

Click here to download the rules log template. Save it in Sites --> DA204SPB --> Evidence
Fill in the rules log with the rules that you will need for your game. You will need rules for at least all of the following areas:

  • Buttons on all your screens
  • Controls for your player
  • Picking up objects
  • Enemies
  • Changing levels
  • Winning / Losing the game

  1. Update your post from the start of the lesson explaining what you have learnt today
  2. Using Adobe Dreamweaver link up your completed rules log on your website

  • Log on to your ICT Twitter Account
  • Reply to the my latest tweet telling me what you will be doing in today's lesson

1. Finish writing the script you started in our last lesson


Extension: Use the feedback you got last lesson to make any improvements




Plenary

  • Read your partners script
  • In a different colour write feedback on it saying:
    • What you like and why
    • What they could improve and why
