#9n5 Adding Sound Effects To Your Game

LO1 - To appreciate the reasons for using sound effects in a video game
LO2 - To understand how to add sound using GameMaker so that you can include suitable sounds 


Starter

Find a seat at the correct table:
  • Team 1 - Rob, Connor, Danielle, Lauren, Bess
  • Team 2 - Beth, Amber, Brandon, Joe, 
  • Team 3 - Emily, James, Lewis, Kieran
  • Team 4 - Neel, Sophie, Ben, Abbie,

On your tables create a mind map about the use of sound in video games:
  • Team 1 - Why are sound effects used in video games?
  • Team 2 - How could you use sound effects in your video games?
  • Team 3 - How could you collect / create sounds effects for your game?
  • Team 4 - What legal issues do you need to consider when using sound?
You have as long as it takes the music to finish. Be prepared to feedback from your group

 


Main

Task 1 - Collect / create sound effects for your game

Create a new folder in your Sites -->DA204SPB --> Products folder called Sounds

1. You could create your own  sound effects
2. You could download free existing music / sound effects
3. Have a look at my area on the read drive lots of useful sounds on there
  • File Store \ Read \ ICT \ Mr Smith \ Unit 5 Game Authoring \ Unit5 Game Sounds
TOP TIP - DON'T FORGET TO NOTE DOWN YOUR SOUNDS INTO YOUR ASSETS TABLE. PRIMARY ASSET IF YOU MAKE IT, SECONDARY ASSET IF YOU TAKE IT FROM SOMEWHERE

Task 2 - Add the music / sound effects into your game

As an independent enquirer use these YouTube videos to help you learn how to add sound into your game




Task 3 - Testing

  • Test the sound works in your game and update the formative testing section at the top of your development log
  • Get someone else to play your game and feedback their thoughts into your development log

Extension Task (Gold Eref)

  • Can you use what you have learnt to add background music into your game

Plenary

  • Write a post on your blog including:
    • The photos of the mindmaps from the starter (Deskyop -->File Store --> Write --> 9n5 Mindmaps)
    • What you have learnt in today's lesson about the use of sound in games
